Films: Skeeter (1993)
Alias: None
Type: Mutant
Location: Cave/Civilized Area
Height/Weight: Twice that of an average human hand.
Affiliation: Neutral
Summary: Mosquitos are awful. That much is known. They suck our blood AND either spread deadly diseases or make us itch for hours. Well, they're about to get a whole lot worse...somewhat.
History: The Clear Sky town mines have become a breeding ground. The careless land developer has been dumping toxic waste there, and now the mosquitos are pumping out giant mutant offspring that threaten to turn the town into a graveyard. The people trying to investigate the problem find themselves assaulted either by the monster bugs or the people the developer hired to get rid of them.
Notable Kills: Nothing special
Final Fate: After all is said and done, the heroes manage to get the whole skeeters' nest blown up. If there are any still out there, they won't have long to survive.
Powers/Abilities: None
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 3-Oh sure, these blood-suckers come in droves, and they can kill a man in seconds with a big enough horde. But the trouble is that these guys simply look too cheap to be a convincing threat. In fact, they look like Halloween decorations coming after us.
Trivia: -Funny thing about what came after this film. Gary Jones was planning a similar film called "Skeeters", only to find that this forgettable film existed. Incensed, he kept changing the title until he settled on a film simply called "Mosquito". Not to say that his efforts didn’t bear more fruit...
-The fact that the mosquito eggs are mostly found in water is no mistake. All mosquitos begin their life cycles in the water, starting out as nymphs before emerging into adults. And in the water, they can come in the hundreds, so just close your eyes and imagine a whole bunch of mosquitos doing it to fill even the smallest puddle with all those to-be blood suckers...
